Batang Kali seat now vacant, assemblyman evicted for absenteeism

SHAH ALAM: Batang Kali assemblyman Harumaini Omar (pic) has been evicted from his seat for prolonged absenteeism without notice.

In announcing the explusion, speaker Ng Suee Lim said Harumaini had not attended the Selangor Legislative assembly sitting since July 28, 2022.

"During that period there was no letter or notification from Harumaini that he cannot attend the state assembly sitting," said Ng.

He added Harumaini, who is Selangor Pejuang chief, should have by right written to or informed the Selangor Legislative Assembly secretary that he would be unable to attend.

According to the Speaker, the expulsion was done in accordance to the provisions in the Selangor State Constitution.

"We also received the opinion and feedback from the Chambers of the state legal officer before making the decision," said Ng.

He added a notice will also be sent to the Election Commission declaring that the Batang Kali state seat was now vacant.
